Summary

You may need to take a server offline for maintenance purposes. If this server is being monitored, taking it offline will generate notifications or alerts. To avoid this, disable monitoring on this server before you take it offline.

More information

To place the server in maintenance mode:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Click to expand Tools, click to expand Monitoring and Status, and then click Status.
  3. Right-click the Server object, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Monitoring tab, click to select the Disable all monitoring of this server check box.
The routing master will pick up this change and list this server as being "in maintenance mode." You can then take the server offline.
