To allow non-administrator users to complete the installation of Internet Explorer after the reboot, click to select the
Enable logon after restart with user-level access check box during stage 3 ("User Experience") in the IEAK Customization Wizard. You must also specify
Flat as your media during stage 1 ("Media Selection") in the IEAK Customization Wizard.
You can use this option for deployment to users running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows NT who do not have administrator privileges, and for Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) deployments.
If you include the Windows Desktop Update component in your package, note that you receive the following error message twice when you reboot the computer and finish the Internet Explorer installation as a user without administrator privileges:
Windows Update: An error has occurred while setting up "C:\WINNT\System32\shdoc401.dll". This error has been logged, the installation will continue.
This error message is logged and does not affect the performance or functionality of the computer. To avoid these error messages:
- Copy Ie5setup.exe from your flat-installation to the local harddisk.
- Run the local setup with the following parameters:
For Windows NT 4:
ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /s:""\\server\share\path\ie5setup.exe"" /q:a /E:IE4Shell_NTx86"
For Windows 95:
ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /s:""\\server\share\path\ie5setup.exe"" /q:a /E:IE4Shell_Win"
- Reboot the computer. You can do this in various ways. One way is to use the Shutdown.exe tool that is available in the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit.
NOTE: The initial phase of the Internet Explorer installation must still be started by a user with administrator privileges when you are installing in Windows NT, it is the login after the reboot that can be completed by any non-administrator user.
