Smsexec.exe in System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 crashes when you deploy a package to remote distribution points

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a package on a primary System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) site server.
  • You add multiple domain users to the access accounts of the package.
  • You deploy the package to remote distribution points.
In this scenario, the SMS_Executive service (Smsexec.exe) process on the primary site server may crash. Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: computer name
Description: Faulting application smsexec.exe, version version number , faulting module amtopmgr.dll, version version number , fault addressaddress

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following hotfix package on the primary System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site server and on the secondary System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site server.
