FIX: Win32 application crashes when you debug it in Visual Studio 2008 SP1

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to open a Win32 application on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows.
  • The Ole32.dll module is loaded multiple times.
  • You debug the Win32 application.
In this scenario, an access violation may occur. Additionally, the application crashes if the access violation occurs.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed.

Restart requirement

You have to restart the computer after you install this hotfix if an instance of Visual Studio is running.
