Cumulative update packages for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 contain hotfixes for the SharePoint Server 2010 issues that were fixed since the release of SharePoint Server 2010.

- The Microsoft Office 2010 hotfixes are now multilingual. This cumulative update package contains updates for all languages.
- This cumulative update package includes all the server component packages. Additionally, this cumulative update package updates only those components that are installed on the system.

After you install this hotfix, you must restart the User Profile Synchronization Service for profile synchronization to function correctly.

After you install the cumulative update package, you must run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard (PSConfigUI.exe). This upgrades and updates the farm to the latest version. This step is required to make sure that you have full SharePoint functionality. The farm will run if you do not run PSConfigUI.exe. However, the farm will have reduced capacity. For example, the search function will be unable to index content.

- Visit Central Administration.
- Click Manage Services on the System Settings section.
- Find User Profile Synchronization Service in the list of services and then click Stop if its status is Started. Click Start and provide the credentials to start the User Profile Synchronization Service as soon as its status is Stopped.
