An application that uses DirectWrite does not start in a restricted security context in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Assume that you try to run an application that uses DirectWrite in a restricted security context on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this situation, the application does not start.

Cause

This issue occurs because the implementation of the DirectWrite font cache in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2 does not perform a check to determine security contexts.
