You receive an error message when you publish Internet free/busy information in Outlook 2010

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure Microsoft Outlook 2010 to publish and retrieve Internet free/busy information that is stored on a server.
  • The server uses the HTTPS protocol and requires a password for authentication.
  • You publish Internet free/busy information to the server by using Microsoft Outlook 2010 on a computer that is running Windows 7.

In this scenario, you are not prompted for authentication. Additionally, the Internet free\busy information is not published or retrieved successfully.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:
2596485 Description of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package (Outlook-x-none.msp): October 25, 2011

Note This hotfix is not relevant if the server that stores the Internet free/busy information uses a protocol other than HTTPS. More specifically, this hotfix is not relevant if the server uses the HTTP protocol or the FTP protocol.

After you install the hotfix package, to have us enable the hotfix for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you prefer to enable the hotfix yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me


To enable the hotfix automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the

Fix it wizard.

Notes
  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
  • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Then, go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.

Let me fix it myself

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\outlook\options\calendar\internet free/busy
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
  4. Type Force FB Publish, and then press ENTER.
  5. In the Details pane, right-click Force FB Publish, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
  8. Type InetFB Publish ShowUI, and then press ENTER.
  9. In the Details pane, right-click InetFB Publish ShowUI, and then click Modify.
  10. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  11. Exit Registry Editor.
