The EdgeTransport.exe process consumes 100 percent of CPU resources on an Exchange Server 2010 Edge Transport server

Symptoms

The EdgeTransport.exe process may consume 100 percent of CPU resources on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Edge Transport server. When this issue occurs, the Edge Transport server stops responding. 

Note This issue may occur when the Edge Transport server is under a heavy workload, and frequent changes are made to the transport configuration files.

Cause

This issue occurs because multiple threads access an object to retrieve certain TransportConfigContainer properties that are out of the schema at the same time on the Edge Transport server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
