"The email to receiver could not be created in Microsoft Outlook because the receiver's email address is in an invalid format" error when you submit a report to "Application Server (96.010.00)" in Microsoft Dynamics SL

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Application Server in Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011. You use Application Server (96.010.00) to send a report to a user whose email address contains a period. For example, the user's email address is someone.someone@example.com. When you do this, you receive the following error message:

Resolution
