Windows Logo Kit 1.6 Missing Test cases - Related to continued testing via used machine pools

Symptom

Occasionally when creating a submission in Windows Logo Kit 1.6 (WLK 1.6), it will be noted that not all of the required tests are listed in Device Console. Sometimes it will be possible to restore the tests by scheduling a test, and closing Device Console.

Here is an example scenario where this may occur:

1) Install DTM Studio on a test machine with a clean install of the OS.

2) In Job Monitor, move the machine to the test Machine Pool, and set the Machine Status to 'Reset'.
3) When the machine status is 'Ready', Open Device Console and create a new submission. Note that all required tests are listed.
4) Delete the submission in Device Console, and delete the machine in Job Monitor. After about 10-15 minutes, the machine will re-appear as 'Manual' in the Default Pool.

5) Move the machine back to the test Machine Pool, and Reset the Status.

6) When the machine status is 'Ready', Open Device Console and create a new submission.

Expected: All required tests will be listed in Device Console

Actual: Some required tests will be missing from the submission.

Cause

The above procedures are incorrect, and may result in corrupted records in the SQL Database, resulting in the tests being missing.

Resolution

Please follow these recommended 'Best Practice' steps to reinstall the DTM Client software when using the same machine for multiple submissions:

1) On a clean-install system, install the DTM Client software.

2) In Job Monitor, move the machine to the test Machine Pool, and set the Machine Status to 'Reset'.
3) When the machine Status is Ready, create the first submission in Device Console.
4) Complete the submission and generate the Submission Package (CPK) in Device Console.
5) Close Device Console.
6) On the test client, log DTMLLUAdminUser off, and log on using your added test account. Uninstall DTM Client from Control Panel.
7) In Job Monitor, set the machine status to Unsafe.
8) Install the DTM Client software on the test client.
9) In Job Monitor, move the machine from the Default pool to the test machine pool, then reset the status.
10) When the machine is Ready, create the next submission in Device Console

Consistently following these steps will prevent data corruption. It is recommended to fully confirm and complete the previous submission(s) per step 4 above, as you may not be able to return to the submission later for scheduling tests or generating a new CPK.
