System Message 6242 when you receive a serialized inventory ID on the Receipts (10.010.00) screen in Microsoft Dynamics SL

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Inventory in Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0:
  • You receive a serial tracked inventory ID with a particular serial number into stock on the Receipts (10.010.00) screen.
  • You log off from the company ID into which you received the inventory ID and log on to a different company ID.
  • You receive the same inventory ID into stock with the same serial number in the second company.
When you do this, you receive the following error message:

System Message 6242 - "The serial number entered already exists for this item."
You expected to be able to receive a duplicate serial number into stock for an inventory ID as long as it is in a different company.

Resolution

Hotfix information for Microsoft Dynamics SL
