You cannot run an application desktop toolbar as a RemoteApp in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You publish a RemoteApp program on the computer. The RemoteApp program is registered as an application desktop toolbar (also known as appbar).
  • You connect to the RemoteApp program from a client computer.
In this scenario, you cannot view the launched RemoteApp program on the client computer.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Shell (Rdpshell.exe) provides an invalid window position to the RemoteApp program.
