Cannot Add IEAK Imported Security Zone Sites Again After They Are Removed

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In the "Stage 4--Security Settings" section of the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard, you can import the current security zones settings from the host computer. However, if you add a site to the Trusted Sites zone on the host computer and then import the current security settings in the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) package, you cannot remove the site entry by using the user interface. If you try to add the site back to the sites list, you receive the following error message:
The site you specified already exists in another zone. Please remove the site from that zone before adding it to the current zone.

Cause

IEAK generates HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry keys for the site entries. When you add sites by using the Microsoft Internet Explorer user interface, only HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys are created. When you delete an entry by using the user interface, only the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key is deleted. It is then re-created from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.

Resolution

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Manually delete the value for the entry under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains
