Applications or services that use LDAP API functions stop responding under a heavy workload in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run a multithreaded application or service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003.
  • The application or service uses the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) API functions.
In this scenario, the application or service stops responding. Additionally, you have to restart the application or service to recover from this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a deadlock situation in the Win32 LDAP API module (Wldap32.dll).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following hotfix on the affected computer that is running Windows Server 2003.

Hotfix information

Mainstream support for this product ended on July 13, 2010. A hotfix for this issue exists but is not publicly available. Please review the�Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy.

Extended Support
