View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you upload a file to a document library in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. When you upload the file, the SharePoint server crawls your display name as the author's name. However, if the first name of your display name contains fewer than three characters, you experience the following symptoms:
  • When you search for the file by the author's full name, no search results are returned.
  • When you search for the file by the first character of the author’s first name, the correct search results are returned. However, the period (.) character is added between the characters of the author's name.
