You experience disk I/O performance issues on a computer that has an Intel Westmere-EX processor with at least 8 sockets and that is running Windows Server 2008 R2

Consider the following scenario:

• You install Windows Server 2008 R2 on a computer that has an Intel Westmere-EX processor with at least 8 sockets.
• The computer is under a heavy disk I/O workload.

In this scenario, applications or services that run on the computer may experience poor performance.

The issue occurs because some I/O completion port objects are not cache-aligned. This behavior causes poor disk I/O performance.

The following hotfix can result in an approximate 26% increase in disk I/O performance.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
