INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You perform a search in the online archive mailbox in Microsoft Outlook 2010 that is in cache mode.
    • You try to open an item in the search results.
    In this scenario, you cannot open the item. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

    Cannot open this item.

  • This hotfix resolves the following issues in the Office 365 environment:

    • This hotfix resolves an issue where Outlook 2010 stops responding when it switches from MSO IDCRL authentication to Basic authentication.
    • This hotfix updates the default value of the AllowNegoCapabilityHeader registry key. Therefore, the header is not sent to the Exchange server.
    • This hotfix resolves the issue where Outlook 2010 stops responding when free/busy information is retrieved in an Office 365 environment.
    • This hotfix resolves the issue where Outlook 2010 stops responding when you send an email message in an Office 365 environment.
    • This hotfix adds log information for WinHTTP requests.
    • This hotfix resolves the issue that Outlook 2010 stops responding when a profile is created in an Office 365 environment.
    • This hotfix turns on a ring buffer to capture ETW RPC log information.
    • This hotfix resolves an issue where Outlook 2010 stops responding when a reminder dialog box is used in an Office 365 environment.

  • Assume that a mailbox is moved to a Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) environment. However, Outlook does not generate the user’s User Principal (UPN) as the user’s Outlook logon user name.
  • Assume that your mailbox is moved to a BPOS environment. When you open an exception of a recurring meeting in Outlook 2010, duplicate attendees display in the To field in the meeting inspector.
  • Outlook 2010 stops responding when you log on to it by using an account that associates with the online archive mailbox.
  • Assume that you have multiple accounts in Outlook 2010. For example, you have an Exchange Server account and an IMAP account. When you change the default sending account to the IMAP account, you may experience the following issues:
    • When you click a mailto link from a browser or from Outlook, the default sending account is the Exchange Server account instead of the IMAP account.
    • When you create a new email message, the Exchange Server account is selected instead of the IMAP account.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You create an email message in Outlook 2010.
    • You enable the Request a Read Receipt option.
    • You run a script, such as a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) script, that saves and then sends the email message.

    In this scenario, the read receipt that you receive is not related to the sent email message. Additionally, the voting response feature does not work.

  • Assume that AutoDiscover only supports Basic authentication. In this situation, Outlook may try to use the Windows authentication credentials that Outlook uses to connect to the Exchange mailbox. When this occurs, AutoDiscover does not work correctly in Outlook 2010.


    Note After you install this hotfix, Outlook displays a prompt for Basic credentials when AutoDiscover only supports Basic authentication. Make sure that registry entries or policy settings do not block the credential prompt. For example, the DisablePWDialog registry entry prevents credentials prompts from appearing.
  • Assume that you receive an email message in Outlook 2010. The email message is sent from a non-MAPI account and contains an attachment. In this situation, the attachment icon and the attachment itself are not visible.
  • Outlook 2010 crashes when you try to view another user’s calendar. Specifically, this issue occurs when you view another user’s calendar by clicking Other User’s Folder under the File tab in Outlook 2010.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You create and send a signed email message to a recipient in Outlook 2010.
    • You specify the format of the email message as Rich Text Format (RTF).
    • The recipient opens and views the email message.

    In this scenario, the format of the email message is not retained or converted to HTML format. Instead, the format of the email message is converted to plain text format.

    Note There are multiple scenarios which encounter this issue. This issue specifically occurs when the message body contains HTML text encoded in RTF. This issue occurs because the best body logic doesn't recognize the encoded HTML text and assumes the plain text body is the only valid body.
  • Assume that an Outlook 2010 mailbox reaches its size limit on an Exchange Server 2003 server. When you try to send an email message in Outlook 2010 that is in cached mode, the email message stays in the Outbox and the Mailbox Cleanup wizard does not start.
  • Assume that you save a calendar together with the detailed information as an iCalendar data file in Outlook 2010. However, when you open the iCalendar data file, the end time of an appointment in the calendar is incorrect.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You have a computer that is running Outlook 2010 and another MAPI application.
    • You create an Outlook profile and add two Exchange accounts to it.
    • You disable Cached Exchange Mode for these two Exchange accounts.
    • You start the MAPI application, and then you close the authentication dialog box that requires your user name and password.
    • You start Outlook 2010.

    In this scenario, you cannot log on to Outlook 2010.
  • Assume that you add two mailboxes in Outlook 2010. When you display the calendars of the two mailboxes side by side, the two calendars have the same name and cannot be distinguished from one another.
  • When you connect Outlook 2010 to Office 365 services, the authentication dialog box does not provide enough information about the format that you should use to enter your user name.
  • When you view a meeting request in Outlook 2010, duplicate attendees are displayed in the To field.
  • When you configure Outlook 2010 to connect to more than one mailbox on an Exchange server, the Automatic Replies dialog box for mailboxes that are not the primary mailbox may not be displayed.
  • In a Hebrew version of Outlook 2010, the frame under Select the address to use: in the Check Names dialog box is displayed out of frame.
  • Assume that you configure Outlook 2010 to use an IMAP account. When you try to delete an email message from the IMAP account’s Inbox, you receive the following error message:

    The Deleted Items folder is unavailable.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • In Outlook 2010, you configure a profile in the cached mode.
    • You use a Group Policy to disable the cached shared folders feature.
    • You start Outlook 2010 and view the shared calendar.

    In this scenario, Outlook 2010 cannot retrieve and display the full calendar details from the Exchange server. Instead, you can only see free/busy information in the calendar view.
  • Assume that you try to print a shared calendar that has many appointments in Outlook 2010. When you select Monthly Style as the Print style and set the Print range to several months, Outlook 2010 crashes and you receive the following error message:

    Microsoft Outlook has stopped working.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You right-click a file, and then you select the Send to Mail Recipient command.
    • You enable the Request a Read Receipt option and the Use Voting Buttons option in Outlook 2010.
    • You send the email message to a recipient.
    • The recipient reads the email message and submits a vote.

    In this scenario, you cannot track the vote result in Outlook 2010.
