Event ID 215 Print Services Error Occurs after Uninstalling KB976932 from a Computer Running Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Hyper-V server role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create two to three virtual machines and then conduct an Export of the Virtual machines and their configuration.
  • You download and install Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 according to KB article 976932.
  • At an elevated command prompt, you uninstall the service pack using the following command: WUSA.EXE /uninstall /kb:976932

In this scenario, after you have completed the un-installation of KB976932 and reboot the server, the following Event ID error message will be observed in the Event Viewer:

Steps to Repro
  1. Install Windows Server 2008 R2 from media.
  2. Add the Hyper-V role and reboot.
  3. Create a Number of virtual machines.
  4. Export the virtual machines and their configuration information.
  5. Upgrade the Operating System to Service Pack 1 using the standalone pack.
  6. Perform some stress testing of the virtual machine and host.
  7. From an elevated command prompt, uninstall the service pack using the following command: WUSA /uninstall /kb:976932
  8. Reboot the machine.
