A Win32 application that calls the EndDoc function crashes if you have 255 printing jobs in the queue in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You develop a Win32 application by using the Visual C++ language. The application calls the EndDoc function to end a print job.
  • You run the application on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You have 255 printing jobs in the queue.
In this scenario, the call to the EndDoc function stops responding. Therefore, the application crashes.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem that is described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
