Some features of the DVD drive cannot be implemented after you burn some data onto a DVD-RW disc in Mastered mode on a computer that is running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you try to burn some data onto a DVD-ReWritable (DVD-RW) disc in Mastered mode on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack (SP1). For example, you burn the disc by using With a CD/DVD player in Windows Explorer.

In this situation, handles to the disc are not released. Therefore, some features of the DVD drive cannot be implemented. For example, the power saving feature does not work.

Note You may use a debug tool such as Process Explorer to monitor the handles to the device object when you are burning the disc. In this case, you see that the handles to the device object are still opened after you finish burning the disc and eject it.
