  • You have an environment that has Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 deployed.

Note This environment does not have a split Domain Name System (DNS) set up.

  • The remote user clicks the User Accounts command under the Conference tab in Outlook 2007.
  • The remote user verifies that the user account information is correct in the User Accounts dialog box.
  • The remote user clicks the Advanced Connection Settings button in the User Accounts dialog box.
  • The remote user verifies that the automatic configuration is set in the Advanced Connection Settings dialog box.
  • The remote user clicks the Test Connection button in the User Accounts dialog box.
In the scenario, the remote user receives the following error message:
Cannot connect to server because the information in the User Accounts dialog might be incorrect or improperly formatted.  Please verify that this information is correct, and then click Test Connection.  If you still can’t connect, the server might not be available.
Note This issue also occurs in other versions of Outlook.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Conferencing Add-in for Office Outlook does not examine the external DNS SRV records. Instead, it only examines the internal DNS SRV records, and then tries to connect to the internal pool IP address.
