View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you browse a website for some time by using Windows Internet Explorer 8 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this situation, the user interface buttons (such as the Back button or the Forward button) in Internet Explorer 8 stop working.

Note You must restart the main window (frame process) of Internet Explorer 8 to recover from this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a resource leak in Internet Explorer 8. When you browse websites that trigger this resource leak while the frame process is running, this issue occurs.

Note By default, the Loosely Coupled Internet Explorer (LCIE) feature is enabled in Internet Explorer 8. When the LCIE feature is enabled, the frame process may continue to run until Windows is shut down or restarted.
