Cumulative update packages for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 contain hotfixes for the SharePoint Server 2010 issues that were fixed since the release of SharePoint Server 2010.

We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and security updates that were included with the previous SharePoint Server 2010 update package releases.
Important notes about the cumulative update package
If you install an earlier build of this hotfix package on a SharePoint server that has the .NET Framework 4 installed, you cannot synchronize user profiles from Active Directory and LDAP into the SharePoint User Profile Service application database. The user profile synchronization export process fails. Additionally, the System.PlatformNotSupportedException exception shows in Event Viewer.

After you install the June 2011 cumulative update refresh package, you must run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard (PSConfigUI.exe). This upgrades and updates the farm to the latest version. This step makes sure that you have full SharePoint functionality. The farm will run if you do not run PSConfigUI.exe, but the farm will have reduced capacity. For example, search will be unable to index content.

- Visit Central Administration.
- In the System Settings section, click Manage Services.
- Find User Profile Synchronization Service in the list of services. If its status is Started, click Stop. Then, as soon as its status is Stopped, click Start and provide the credentials to start the User Profile Synchronization service.

- I Central Administration, click Manage Services on Server, and then click Stop and Start User Profile Synchronization Service.
- Start Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) user interface from the following location: %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Synchronization Service\UIShell\miisclient.exe
- Click the Management Agents tab, and then double-click a BDC synchronization connection that has a name that resembles MOSSBDC-* to edit the Management Agents feature.
- In the Properties window, click Define Object Types. The name of the BDC object type that you selected appears in a validation message.
- In the Properties window, click Map Object Types. Click New, and then add the BDC object type from the message in step 4.
- Click Delete to delete the user, group, and contact that have the BDC object type, and then click OK.
- If you have more than one BDC synchronization connection, repeat steps 3 through 6 for each BDC synchronization connection.
- In Central Administration, click Manage Services on Server, and then click Stop and Start User Profile Synchronization Service.
