FIX: "E-Mail Policy - Configuration Reapplied" alerts occur when the "Scan inbound messages" check box or the "Scan outbound messages" check box is not selected in a Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 environment


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 on a server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You enable the Email Protection feature in the Forefront TMG 2010 environment.
  • You click to clear the Scan inbound messages check box or the Scan outbound messages check box on the General tab when you configure a file filter in the Email Policy by using the Forefront TMG Management console.

In this scenario, you receive the following recurring alerts in TMG monitoring:
E-Mail Policy - Configuration Reapplied.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the software update that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
2517957 Software Update 1 Rollup 4 for Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 Service Pack 1
