FIX: Slow to add files or Source Control Explorer stops responding in Visual Studio after you install Team Foundation Server 2010 SP1

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

After you install Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may encounter one of the following issues:
  • When you try to add new files or folders to a TFS 2010 server in Microsoft Visual Studio, the TFS 2010 server is slower than a TFS 2008 server to perform the operation.
  • When you click a certain source control folder, or when you check out files in TFS server, Source Control Explorer in Visual Studio stops responding.

Cause

These issues occur because the performance of the Prc_QueryItemsExtendedLocal, Prc_ichecklockstatus, and Prc_pendadd Transact-SQL stored procedures is slow in TFS 2010.
