You encounter a long logon time after you enable the "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline" Group Policy setting in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You deploy the Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline Group Policy setting in a network environment.
  • You redirect multiple folders on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to a file server.
  • You only cache offline files on the client computer.
  • You manually pin one or more of the redirected folders after you log on the client computer so that the folders are available offline only.
In this scenario, you may encounter a long logon (slow logon) time every time when you try to log on to the client computer.

Note The Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline policy setting is located in the following path:
User Configuration\Policies\Administrative templates\System\Folder Redirection

Cause

The issue occurs because the system continues to unpin and then re-pin the data in the redirected folder that is set for manual offline synchronization during the logon process. Therefore, you may encounter a long logon time if the redirected folder contains a large amount of data.
