Error message when you try to crawl content resources that are located on a UNIX server in Office SharePoint Server 2007

Symptoms

Assume that Basic authentication is used in a crawl rule in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. When you try to crawl content resources that are located on a UNIX server that is running Samba, you receive the following error message:

Access is denied.  Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the following hotfix packages:
  • 2512780 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package (Sts-x-none.msp): April 26, 2011
  • 2512781 Description of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 hotfix package (coreserver-x-none.msp): April 26, 2011
