FIX: TFS errors when you try to check in new or renamed files in a solution folder in Visual Studio 2010

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You add a solution folder to a solution in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.
  • You add a project to the solution and add a file to the project.
  • You connect to Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010.
  • You add the solution to Solution Control, and then you check in the solution.
  • You copy the file into the solution folder.
  • You rename the file in the project, and then you check in the file.
In this scenario, you receive the following error messages:
TF10210: Source control encountered an error during move operation: Unable to rename t1.cs to t2.cs
TF14050: Cannot change item $/serverpath/t1.cs because it already has a pending change that is not compatible.
If you try to obtain an earlier version of the solution folder after you check in some files that you added to the solution folder, some files in the solution folder incorrectly display a check-out status.
