Office Excel 2010 crashes when you programmatically print or print-preview a file

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
  • You set the turn off screen updating by setting the value of the ScreenUpdating property to False.
  • You programmatically print or print-preview a file.
In this scenario, Office Excel 2010 crashes, or a runtime error occurs.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Apply the hotfix package that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2475875. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    2475875 Description of the Excel 2010 hotfix package (excel-x-none.msp, graph-x-none.msp): February 22, 2011
  2. Enable the hotfix package.

    To have us enable the hotfix package for you, go to the "Here's an easy fix" section. If you prefer to fix this problem manually, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

    Here's an easy fix

    To fix this problem automatically, click the Download button. In the File Download dialog box, click Run or Open, and then follow the steps in the easy fix wizard.
    • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
    • If you’re not on the computer that has the problem, save the easy fix solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

    To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In Windows 7 or in Windows Vista, click Startthe Start button , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

      If you are prompted for an administrator password, type the password. If you are prompted for confirmation, provide confirmation.


      In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options\
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type ResetWnxCurInPrint, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click ResetWnxCurInPrint, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
