A site crawl fails when a claims enabled SharePoint Server 2010 site has multiple cookies

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a claims enabled Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 site.
  • The claims enabled SharePoint Server 2010 site has multiple cookies.
  • You try to crawl the site.
In this scenario, the crawl fails. Additionally, when users try to search for something, they receive an access denied error message.
