You cannot resume a tablet computer that has no input device installed after the tablet computer does not resume from hibernation successfully in Windows 7

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a tablet computer that is running Windows 7.
  • You have no input device installed on the tablet computer. For example, you have no keyboard or mouse installed on the computer.
  • The computer does not resume from hibernation successfully.
  • Windows displays a Windows resume loader menu and waits for input.
In this scenario, you cannot try to resume the computer from hibernation again because you have no input device installed.

Cause

This issue occurs because touch input is not available during the startup loader phase. However, the Windows resume loader menu requires input for the startup process to resume.

Resolution

After you install the hotfix, a new Boot Configuration Data (BCD) option enables you to set a time-out for the Windows resume loader menu. When the time-out is reached, the resume data is discarded and the computer restarts automatically.

To set the time-out value, at a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Bcdedit /set {resumeloadersettings} custom:0x15000080 <seconds to wait>
For example, to set the time-out to 120 seconds, at a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Bcdedit /set {resumeloadersettings} custom:0x15000080 120

The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.
Windows 7 file information note
Important Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 updates are included in the same packages.
