"0x0000007E" Stop error after you perform a hot removal of a PCI device in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008 R2, in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, and that supports the hot removal of PCI devices.
• You perform a hot removal of a PCI device on a storage controller.

In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:Notes

• The parameters in this error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
• Not all "0x0000007E" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

This issue occurs because Storport.sys does not handle the hot removal request correctly.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
