Hardware Events Logged as Invalid SEL When Hardware Monitoring is Enabled on Windows Server 2003 or 2008

Symptoms

After you enable Hardware Management on a Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 system and setup a subscription to monitor for Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IMPI) Hardware Events, you may see one or more events logged with a Description of Invalid SEL.

Cause

Hardware Events will only log records or events from the BMC System Event Log (SEL) and if the LogRecord Class Caption is listed as Other, the event will be listed as Invalid SEL.

Resolution

This is expected behavior as event types other than System or OEM have a fixed value of "Invalid SEL".
