In Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, RemoteFX VMs cannot start if the Hyper-V server display adapter has been changed

Symptoms

On a server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), RemoteFX virtual machines cannot start if the display adapter on the Hyper-V server is changed and a new driver is installed.

Resolution

Method 1: Restart the RemoteFX Session Manager service

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the Hyper-V server, click Start, click All programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  2. Restart the RemoteFX Session Manager service.

Method 2: Restart the Hyper-v server

To resolve this issue, you can restart the Hyper-V server. This restarts the RemoteFX services.
