FSRM errors out when you try to generate a storage report on a cluster volume which is managed by 3rd party Volume Manager utilities

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you try to generate a storage report on a cluster volume, using FSRM, it fails with the below error:

You have chosen an invalid combination of paths for the report scope. On clustered deployments, all report scope paths should be set on volumes that belong to the same cluster resource group.

Please select valid report scope paths

Cause

This is a limitation in FSRM. FSRM cannot generate a report on a disk which is not configured as resource type "Physical Disk" on a cluster. When the disks on a cluster are managed by 3rd party volume managers like "IBM Serve RAID Logical Disk" or "Symantec Storage Foundation" the disks are not configured as "Physical disk" resources. They are configured as other resource types like "VERITAS volume" etc.

This applies especially in scenarios when dynamic disks are used on a cluster. Since, dynamic disk configuration is not available for server cluster disk resources, the only way to manage them on cluster is to use 3rd party Volume Manager utilities.

Resolution

This is by design.

More Information

There is no plan for FSRM to support storage on a cluster that is of a resource type other than "physical disk".
