View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When setting up a new Windows OS using the Romanian language, you try to use the "Ș" character (Unicode character U+0218) in a computer name. You may receive an error message stating that the computer name contains invalid characters. Alternately, when you type this character, it is displayed as an underscore ("_") character.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the "Ș" character does not exist in the Slavic OEM Code Page that is used for Romanian. Therefore, this character is not valid for use in computer names. It may be used in user names.
