Some Icons may not be drawn correctly after installing a mirror driver on a multi-mon configured system

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

Consider the following scenario. You attach more than one monitor to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. You set the mirror driver to read data off any portion of the extended desktop and start it. A problem could be observed with any app that can read the data off the mirror driver surface. Those apps may show some icons located on the desktop, and other composited graphic elements generated within some applications, may not be drawn correctly or may be completly missing on the mirror driver's surface.

More Information

Typically, the graphic elements that are not drawn correctly are those that must be read off the screen, modified, and written back. The User can work around this problem by setting the desktop background display to (None). However, this will not resolve this problem with the drawing of other icons such as those in applications such as Computer Management or the Device Manager. There is no known workaround for those instances of this issue.
