In Microsoft Excel 2000, you may be unable to insert data into an existing Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document. Although Excel 97 offers the option Insert the converted data into an existing HTML file (just the table will be created), this option appears to be missing in Excel 2000.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Use a Web browser or a text editor to edit the source code of the existing HTML Web page. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- In the Open box, select the HTML file that you want, and then click OK.
- In the Internet Explorer window, right-click the HTML document that you opened.
- On the shortcut menu, click View Source.
Notice that the HTML document source code is displayed in Notepad or WordPad.
- In the document window, insert a new blank line at the location that you want the Excel data to appear.
- On the new blank line, type the following data:

- On the File menu, click Save, and then close the text editor.
- Click to select Internet Explorer.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the File name box, type the name that you want your file to be saved as, and then click OK.
- Quit Internet Explorer.
- Start Excel 2000 and open the workbook that contains the selection that you want to add to the HTML document.
- On the worksheet, select the cells that you want to add to the HTML document.
- On the File menu, click Save As Web Page.
- In the File name box, type the same name that you used in step 7, click to select Selection:$x$x:$x$x, and then click Save.
- Click Add to file, and then quit Excel 2000.
- Start Internet Explorer, and then open your HTML document.
Notice that your Excel 2000 selection appears in your document at the location that you specified.
