Error: 0x7F, Stop: 0x0000007F or Windows Live Mail fails to launch after installing Windows update KB2454826

As KB2454826 is a non-security update, the workaround for these two issues is to uninstall the update KB2454826. This update has been removed from Windows Update so you should not be offered this update.  However, this update may be cached for install on your computer if it has been downloaded but not installed.

If you are encountering the blue screen issue or the Stop: 0x0000007F issue, follow the steps in one of the methods below:

(Note: You may find it easier to perform the steps in this KB article if you print the KB article first and then follow the steps.)

Method 1: Uninstall the Update in Safe Mode

First, boot your computer into Safe Mode. For information on how to boot your computer into Safe Mode, click the following link to view the article on the Microsoft website:

Once you have booted into Safe Mode follow the steps listed below:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Programs and then click Uninstall a Program
2. Click View Installed Updates
3. Browse the list for and then click to select Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2454826)
4. Click Uninstall, and allow the update to be uninstalled
5. Close the Installed Updates Window
   The issue should now be resolved.

Method 2: Restore the system back to a date prior to when the update was installed

1. Click Start and type System Restore in the Search boxClick View Installed Updates
2. Click System Restore from programs listClick Uninstall, and allow the update to be uninstalled
3. Click Next on the System Restore Window
4. In the list of restore points, select a date prior to the date that the update was installed
   Note Windows Update KB2454826 was released on January 11, 2011
5. Click Next and follow the given prompts to complete the system restore
   When your computer restarts, the issue should be resolved.

If you are encountering the Windows Live Mail issue, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Programs and then click Uninstall a Program
2. Click View Installed Updates
3. Browse the list of updates and then click to select Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2454826)
4. Click Uninstall, and allow the update to be uninstalled
5. Close the Installed Updates Window
   The issue should now be resolved.

Note After uninstalling this Update you should take the additional steps listed below to ensure your system is up to date:

• Update all drivers on the system
• Update anti-virus software and definitions (in some cases reinstalling your anti-virus software may be necessary)
