Add a Web Page to Your FavoritesInternet Explorer 6 makes it easy for you to return to a particular Web page when you add the Web page link to your list of Favorites. If you've already got your Favorites organized in folders, find out how to add Web pages in the
Organize Your Favorite Web Pages in Folders section below.
- Go to the Web page that you want to add to your Favorites.
- On the Favorites menu, click Add to Favorites.
- In the Add Favorite box, type a new name for the page if you want, and click OK. See step 3 in the image below.
In most cases, Internet Explorer 6 proposes a perfectly good name, but occasionally you may want to give the page a different name.
Tip:You can add the current page to your main list of favorites (but not to a folder) right from the keyboard by pressing
CTRL+D.
Go to a Web Page on Your Favorites List
On the
Favorites menu, click the link to the Web page you want to visit. If you've already organized Web pages into folders, on the
Favorites menu, first point to the folder of the page you want to visit, and then click the link to go to the page.
Keep your list of favorite Web pages handy: Simply click the
Favorites button on the Internet Explorer 6 toolbar at the top of the window. The
Favorites bar opens on the left side of the screenit works just like the Favorites list. (To close the bar, click the
Favorites button again.)
Track your Web site visits: If you've forgotten to add a Web page to the Favorites list, Internet Explorer 6 records where you've been in the History listtoday, yesterday, or even a couple of weeks ago. To take stock, click the History button on the Internet Explorer 6 toolbar at the top of the window.

Alphabetize Your FavoritesIf your list of Favorites gets unruly, you can put it in alphabetical order.
- Right-click anywhere on the Favorites menu.
- On the menu that opens, click Sort by Name. See step 2 in the image below. Internet Explorer 6 lists folders first (if you have them), and then individual Web pages in the main list.
Remove a Web Page from the Favorites ListYou may find that the link to a favorite Web page is broken and no longer takes you there. Or perhaps you just want to clean up your Favorites list. Whatever the reason, it's easy to remove a Web page from your Favorites list.
- On the Favorites menu, right-click the link to the page that you want to remove from the list.
- On the menu that opens, click Delete.
Organize Your Favorite Web Pages in a New Folder
As your list of Favorites grows, you can organize it by categorizing Web pages, creating a folder for each category, and storing Web pagesor even other foldersin them.
- On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.
- Click Create Folder. See step 2 in the image below.
- Type a name for the folder, and then press ENTER. See step 3 in the image below.
For example, you could create a folder named Movies and use it to store links to theaters, movie times, reviews, and so on. - Drag to move individual Web pages or other Favorite folders to the new folder. If the number of shortcuts or folders makes dragging impractical, use the Move to Folder button instead.
- When you've finished, click Close.
Rename a folder: On the
Favorites menu, right-click the folder you want to rename. On the menu that opens, click
Rename near the bottom of the list. Type a new name, and click
OK.
Remove a Web Page from a Folder in the Favorites List- On the Favorites menu, point to the folder where the Web page you want to remove is stored.
If you have folders within folders, you may have to point to more than one folder. - Right-click the link to the page that you want to remove from the list.
- On the menu that opens, click Delete.
Be careful! When you delete a folder, Internet Explorer 6 removes the folder and the links to all the Web pages stored in that folder.
