Cluster service stops when an error occurs in the registry replication process of a failover cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a failover cluster on some computers that are running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You run an application that continuously writes information to the cluster database. This application updates lots of data in the cluster database.
In this scenario, the Cluster service on the node stops, and the application fails over to another node. Therefore, the application encounters downtime.

When this issue occurs, entries that resemble the following Tare logged in the Cluster.log file:
00001260.000029cc::2011/11/17-17:15:48.160 ERR [DM] Dm::Hive::PerformReplicatedOperation: ERROR_LOG_FULL(6628)' because of '::WriteLogRestartArea( marshallingArea.GetBuffer(), & size, sizeof( ULONG ), NULL, 0, NULL, NULL, NULL )' 00001260.000029cc::2011/11/17-17:15:48.160 ERR Operation failed on a local hive (status = 6628) 00001260.000029cc::2011/11/17-17:15:48.160 DBG Operation failed on a local hive: set netft heartbeat interval to 900 seconds 00001260.000029cc::2011/11/17-17:15:48.160 ERR Operation failed on a local hive (status = 6628), executing OnStop
Additionally, the following event description is logged in the Event log:

Cause

This issue occurs because the Cluster service does not handle a returned error in the registry replication process correctly. Therefore, the Cluster service stops itself.
