TS Session Broker routes user connection requests to an offline server in Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Terminal Services Session Broker (TS Session Broker) role service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • You route user connection requests to a terminal server farm.
  • A server in the terminal server farm becomes unavailable. For example, the server is turned off.
In this scenario, the TS Session Broker service still routes user connection requests to the offline server for a long time. For example, the service sends requests to the offline server for 2 hours after the server becomes unavailable.

Cause

This issue occurs because the TS Session Broker service does not handle a returned error correctly.

Note This error is received when the service tries to query session information from the offline server.
