How to install Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 and the Microsoft Management Reporter Application Service on the same Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit IIS server

More Information

  1. Prepare the Windows Server 2008 64-bit Server Running IIS. First, turn off the User Account Control (UAC) by following these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type UserAccountControlSettings.exe and then click OK.
    3. In the User Account Control Settings window that opens, move the slider bar to the bottom to the Never Notify position.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Restart the server.
      Note You are not presented with an on-screen message. However, you must restart your computer to finish the change. Review the Action Center in Control Panel for more information.

  2. Make sure all required IIS components are installed for Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 by using these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Server Manager.
    2. Expand Roles.
    3. Select the Web Server (IIS) role.
    4. Scroll down to the Role Services section.
    5. Click Add Role Services.
    6. Select the following Role Services to install if they are not already installed:
      1. Under the Common HTTP Features section, select:
        • Static Content
        • Default Document
        • HTTP Errors

      2. Under the Application Development section, select:
        • ASP.NET
        • ASP

      3. Under the IIS 6 Management Compatibility section, select:
        • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
        • IIS 6 WMI Compatibility
        • IIS 6 Scripting Tools

    7. Complete the Add Role Services wizard to install any missing role services.
    8. Restart the server, if it is required, after you complete the wizard.

  3. Make sure all required features are installed for Microsoft Management Reporter. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Server Manager.
    2. Select Features.
    3. Click Add Features.
    4. Expand .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features and check WCF Activation. If you are prompted, click Add Required Features to add the additional required features.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click Install.
    7. Restart the server, if it is required, after you complete the wizard.

  4. Enable the IIS 32-bit mode, which will enable Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 to run on a 64-bit operating system. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Server Manager.
    2. Expand Roles.
    3. Expand the Web Server (IIS) role.
    4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    5. In IIS Manager, expand the server name and then select Application Pools.
    6. In the Actions pane, click Set Application Pool Defaults.
    7. Change the Enable 32-Bit Applications value to True.
    8. Click OK to save the change.

  5. Install the 64-bit versions of the following prerequisites for Microsoft SQL Server in the following order:
    1. Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
      Note The file name is sqlncli_x64.msi.
    2. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection
      Note The file name is SQLServer2005_XMO_x64.msi.
    3. You can obtain each of these items from the following link:

  6. Download the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 full installation package. You can obtain this by using the following link:

  7. Extract the contents of the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 installer, and then run the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 installer by using these steps:
    1. Double-click Setup.exe.
    2. You are prompted to install any prerequisites that were not detected on the 64-bit operating system. This includes the following:
      • Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
      • Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects Collection

    3. Click Install.
    4. You will receive the following error message:

      Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects Collection: Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For more information about supported configurations, see the product documentation.

      Note
      The error message is caused by the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 installer trying to install the 32-bit version of the Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects Collection. This is not supported on a 64-bit operating system. The error is expected and can be safely ignored.
    5. Click OK to continue past the error.
    6. Click Yes when you are prompted with the message Failed to install Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects Collection. Continue with other components?
    7. The Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Setup wizard starts. Click Next on the first screen.
    8. Click to accept the license agreement and then click Next.
    9. On the Select the features you would like to install on your computer screen, clear Microsoft Forecaster Web Access. This installation will be completed later.

      Note If you try to install the Web Access piece of Microsoft Forecaster, you will receive the following error because of the incompatibility of Web Access in the original Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 install with Windows Server 2008:

      Failed to schedule install of IIS Virtual Directories (-2147023728)
    10. Click Next.

      Note If you select the Enable Advanced Customization option, make sure that the installation directory for Microsoft Forecaster is the Program Files (x86) directory.
    11. After the setup summary screen, review the options displayed and then click Install.
    12. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

  8. Download Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 from the following link:

    Note
    The file name is FC70SP3.zip.
  9. Locate the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 zip file that you downloaded and extract the contents.
  10. Install Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Double-click the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 setup file (FC70SP3.msi).
    2. The Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 setup wizard starts. Click Next.
    3. Click to accept the license agreement and then click Next.
    4. Click Install.
    5. Click Finish when the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Setup wizard is completed.

  11. Install Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Web Access.
    1. Double-click the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 setup file (FC70SP3.msi).
    2. The service pack installer will detect that the service pack is already applied. Select Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
    3. Check the Microsoft Forecaster Web Access option, and then click Next.
    4. Enter a name to use in the Virtual Directory field. This will be used when you access the Microsoft Forecaster Web Access website.
    5. Enter a port number in the Port field. We recommend that you use the default port 80.
    6. In the Host Name field, enter the host name that will be used to access the Microsoft Forecaster Web Access site.
    7. Click Next.
    8. Click Modify on the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 setup summary screen.
    9. Click Finish when the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Setup wizard has finished.

  12. Download Hotfix 4 for Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 SP3 from the following link:

    Note The file name is FC073HF4.zip.
  13. Install Hotfix 4 for Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 SP3 . To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Locate the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 4 .zip file that you downloaded and extract the contents.
    2. Double-click the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 4 setup file (FC073HF4.msi).
    3. The Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 4 Setup wizard starts. Click Next.
    4. Click to accept the license agreement and then click Next.
    5. Click Install.
    6. Click Finish when the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 4 Setup wizard has finished.

  14. Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 is now installed and the Microsoft Forecaster Web Access website created. Additional steps are required to configure Microsoft Forecaster, create the database, and configure the link to the database for the Web Access portion to work. Refer to the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 installation guide for more information. You can find these files inside the “Help” directory on the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 installation source.   15. Prepare the server that is running IIS to install Microsoft Management Reporter. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Server Manager.
    2. Expand Roles.
    3. Expand the Web Server (IIS) role.
    4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    5. In IIS Manager, expand the server name and then select Application Pools.
    6. In the Actions pane, click Set Application Pool Defaults.
    7. Change the Enable 32-Bit Applications value to False.
    8. Click OK to save the change.
    9. Right-click the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Service Pack 3 application pool and then click Advanced Settings.
    10. Make sure that the Enable 32-Bit Applications value is set to True.
    11. Click OK to save the setting.

  16. Download Microsoft Management Reporter from the following link:

  17. Extract the zip files that are used for the Microsoft Management Reporter installation. No additional steps are required to install Microsoft Management Reporter as Microsoft Management Reporter will run on a 64-bit operating system. Make sure that the system requirements are met and install Microsoft Management Reporter by using the recommended installation process in the available installation guide.
