You cannot open or convert an Access 97 database in Access 2000

Symptoms

You find that you cannot open or convert one of your Access 97 databases in Access 2000. Either nothing happens at all (the operation fails silently), or you receive the following error messages:
An error occurred while loading '<form name>'. Do you want to continue loading the project?
When you click Yes or No, you receive the following error message:
The Visual Basic for Applications Project in the database is corrupt.
When you click OK the database is not opened or converted.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
