Server for NFS in Windows Server 2008 incorrectly updates the Modified time stamp for some files that are copied from an NFS client

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Server for NFS component on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • You export some Network File System (NFS) shares on the computer.
  • A user tries to copy some files from an NFS client to the NFS shares by using a command that preserves the time stamp of the copied files.
In this scenario, the Server for NFS component incorrectly updates the Modified time stamp on several files to the current date and to the current time.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Windows Server 2008 file information notes
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page.
