Symptoms

When you open your workbook, Excel may crash with an access violation or an invalid page fault error message.

Cause

This issue occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • Your worksheet contains a formula that calls a function that is stored in an Excel custom code resource (.xll) or dynamic-link library (.dll) file.

    -and-

  • The function in the .xll or .dll file returns a two-dimensional array that contains 1 item in the first dimension and 0 items in the second dimension (1x0).

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
