FIX: Error messages when you try to use SQL Server Integration Services to move Unicode data into data types for graphic data from an IBM DB2 database in a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 environment

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • In a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 environment, you use the Microsoft OLE DB provider for DB2 v3.
  • You want to use SQL to move Unicode data into data types for graphic data from an IBM DB2 database.
  • You try to use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to make this move.
In this scenario, the operation may fail. Additionally, you receive error messages that resemble the following:

Error message 1
Msg XXX, Level XX, State X, Line X

Implicit conversion from data type nvarchar to binary is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.

Error message 2

Msg XXX, Level XX, State X, Line X

The OLE DB provider "XXX" for linked server "XXX" supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column "VGRAPH" (compile-time ordinal 2) of object ""XXX"."XXX"."XXX"" was reported to have a "DBCOLUMNFLAGS_ISFIXEDLENGTH" of 16 at compile time and 0 at run time.
