Using Expression Encoder Live templates to preview a Windows Media Services stream, where Negotiate and/or Digest Authentication are enabled, will not work

Symptoms

When selecting an Expression Encoder Live template for streaming scenarios from Windows Media Services(WMS), and the publishing point on WMS is not using anonymous authentication, you will not be able to view the stream.

Cause

The attempt to view the content will fail due to the support for prompting in the MediaElement control that is used in the template. If the publishing point on WMS, is configured to use any other authentication method other than anonymous, this will occur.

Resolution

Use Windows Media Player if you require authentication on your publishing point.
