The Internet Printing Client (IPP) is not available in Windows 7 Starter Edition

Symptoms

The following error may occur while attempting to connect to a print queue using Internet Printing (IPP).

Printer Installation Failed
The printer name is invalid.

Cause

The Internet Printing (IPP) client is not included with Windows 7 Starter Edition.

Resolution

Option 1:
Connect to the print queue using a UNC path.

Option 2:
Use a higher edition of Windows 7.

More Information

Windows 7 Starter includes only a subset of the features offered in the higher editions of Windows 7, such as Windows 7 Home Premium.
