Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on an Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server in a mixed Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010 environment.
  • The forms-based authentication (FBA) method is not used for the Outlook Web App (OWA) virtual directory on the Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server.
  • You configure the external authentication method for the Exchange Server 2007 OWA virtual directory to match the internal authentication method for the Exchange Server 2010 OWA virtual directory.
  • The LegacyRedirectTypevalue on the Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server is set to Silent.
  • Exchange Server 2007 mailbox users try to access their mailboxes by using the Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server.
In this scenario, a temporary redirect page is displayed that shows the following error message:

A temporary change has occurred that requires you to connect to a different server. To connect, click the button below. For security reasons, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password again.

However, you expect the following results:
  • The client is redirected from the Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server to an externally available Exchange Server 2007 Client Access server in the same active directory site.
  • Users are prompted for credentials without any intermediate redirection page.
